Know Your Equipment

Read the manual, set up correctly, and make sure your sprayer is accurately calibrated

Wear Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment

Different chemicals will require different levels of protective gear – always read the label! PPE includes overalls, gloves, boots, hats, and eyewear – all made of chemical-resistant materials such as butyl rubber, neoprene, PVC, or coated or laminated polyethylene fabrics

Remain Up-to-Date with Changes to Legislations and Laws

Whether it be occupational health and safety, codes of practice, or environment laws, it is important to understand and abide by the rules.

Be Mindful of Weather Conditions

Wind may cause spray drift, which in turn can be harmful to both you and surrounding vegetation. Plan ahead, and be prepared to adjust your spraying schedule if the weather conditions change too much

Create a Buffer Zone

Allowing an area between chemically affected areas and sensitive zones, such as houses, waterways, or a different type of vegetation, will lessen the chance of chemicals getting where they’re not meant to be. It is important to be careful of the buffer zone on windy days – spraying too close to it could cause havoc.

Never Operate Your Sprayer Without Driveline Guards

This one is a no-brainer. Don’t put yourself at risk

Be Sure to Maintain a Constant Speed When Spraying

If you do need to increase the speed, remember to change to a larger nozzle, and re-calibrate your sprayer as needed

Do Not Leave Your Sprayer Unattended Without Turning Off the Engine

Always shut off the engine and remove ignition key before performing maintenance or repair.

Decontaminate Your Sprayer After Use

Be sure to include the pump, hose, boom and hand lance in this process. This will protect crops harmful spray residue, and prevent your sprayer from deterioration
